Heather’s Talks for Homeschool Groups:
Stepping Outside the School Box: Creating a Home Where We Learn
Learning to embrace a natural, holistic way of education can make homeschooling doable and successful academically, spiritually and socially for both the students and the parents.  It’s important to let go of our pre-conceived notions of what “school” should look like and instead major on the strengths of homeschooling – flexibility, real life learning, real books (living books), dialogue rather than formal tests, etc.   Discover how to emphasize the benefits of homeschooling and avoid the burn out that happens when parents try to replicate a traditional school in their homes.

Cultivating Curiosity
Come explore ways to cultivate the engine of education: curiosity.  Learn how to grow the love of learning in your children that will bear the long-term fruit of academic excellence, strong family relationships, and independent learning.  This developmentally appropriate, holistic approach to real life learning can relieve stress for both parent and child, and bring joy to your homeschool and family life beginning in the crucial early year.

Get Your Move On: How Movement Helps Learning
Come explore the scientific research behind the mind/body connection and how movement can be the key switch to turn your child ON to learning.  Learn ways to incorporate movement into everyday learning to maximize your child’s learning potential.
Long Term Perks: Confident Grateful Graduates
Homeschooled and now homeschooling mother Heather Haupt inspires parents to keep their eyes on the prize as they deal with the daily details of homeschooling.  Heather shares her moments of clarity as she realized  (as a college student, a career woman, a wife, a young mother, and now as a homeschooling mother of three) the benefits of homeschooling – a superior education, being equipped for college, close family relationships with siblings, parents and extended family as well as being grounded in the faith.  This now adult daughter wants to encourage all the parents with a Proverbs 31 promise that your children will rise up and call you blessed.

Colene Lewis and Heather Haupt:

“Turn Right to Go Left” – Important Lessons from Cars
Want to give your preschooler and kindergartner an edge? Though it may seem counterintuitive, having a playful relaxed, yet intentional attitude towards learning in the early years develops creativity, encourages curiosity, builds independence, expands attention span, enhances relationships, and has fun, too.  And it is PROVEN to give them an academic edge!  Join this mother daughter duo as they share the art of teaching young children through play.
Missional Homeschooling
Missional living is more than a simple translation of scripture .  It points to the embodiment of the living Word in human culture and social settings in a way that the divine nature and power are not lost.  Homeschooling is the ideal setting to fulfill the calling to live missionally (reaching our children first and then moving out as a family to reach the culture).  Come find out what it could look like to live missionally as you move through different stages in your homeschool journey.
Developing Life Long Readers
Come and discover how to prepare an environment which will cultivate life long readers.  Reading acquisition is so much more than merely reading mechanics.  Whether you have a prereader, emergent reader, or fluent reader, this intensely practical workshop will give you tools to use (including developmentally appropriate activities, tips on book selection) as well as pitfalls to avoid (including jumping the gun, taking a cookie cutter approach).
Sharing Life, Love and Learning... How Homeschooling Can Build Relationships
One of the perks of homeschooling is the opportunity families have to build relationships.  Learning to live and learn together, 24-7, provides a wonderful environment where relationships are cultivated.  It isn't always easy, but the benefits are well worth the effort!
Building a Christian Worldview in the Early Years
Viewing the world from a Biblical perspective starts from birth.  How we interact with and disciple our children in these formative early years can lay a strong foundation and is not to be taken lightly.

Speaker Bio's
Heather Haupt
Heather's homeschool journey began after it appeared she was going to fail first grade at a traditional school.  She flourished at home and, from an early age, advocated for homeschooling in radio, TV, and newspapers.  Heather pursued a degree in biology and taught students of all ages, from hands-on preschool nature classes to college biology.  She graduated summa cum laude from Arizona State University in 2001, a year after marrying the love of her life, Rich.  Since 1997, she has encouraged families through workshops at the AZ Home Education Convention and local support groups.  Drawing on her unique perspectives in biology and as a home school graduate who is now in the trenches educating her four children, Heather inspires parents to pursue a loving, holistic, and developmentally appropriate approach to education.  Her heart is to encourage and equip parents towards intentional parenting, pursuing God and delighting in the adventure of learning.

Colene Lewis
Colene, with her husband Tom, home schooled their daughters through high school in a home where learning was a joy and a way of life.  Earning scholarships, each girl excelled at college in biology, engineering, English, and law.  More importantly, all three women are walking with the Lord and starting to raise their own families.  Colene has a deep passion for homeschoolers.  Alongside her husband, she served on the board of AZ Families for Home Education for over 13 years.  During that time, she became a sought-after speaker, speaking at numerous conferences, including the National English Teachers Convention and the AZ Home Educators’ Convention.  She is the author of Russia: The Land of Endurance, published by KONOS.  Presently, Colene works for the Alliance Defense Fund and spends most other moments with her husband, daughters, sons-in-law and five delightful, rambunctious grandchildren.
