No Fear

I'm scared.

This youngest child of mine is D*A*N*G*E*R*O*U*S around water. He would be a great candidate for baby swim lessons because he needs them - badly.

Xander and even Keegan both had a healthy fear of the water and were quite cautious. But this kid runs towards water and doesn't look back. We've been going to the "lagoon" at my Opa's neighborhood club. The gradual entry pool is perfect for the two bigger boys who love to splash around and 'pretend' to swim around the edge.

Trey, on the other hand, just runs in and keeps making his way until he can't stand up any longer and goes under. When I retrieve him, he is all smiles as he coughs up the water he just swallowed... In the back of my mind, I've been somewhat skeptical of the need for baby swim lessons and wondered if it caused more harm than good by creating a false sense of security. A two year old can frantically back float for only so long after jumping in. But now I'm wondering if these kids that seemed dangerous around water, thus making me think swim lessons were a bad idea may have just had personalities similar to Treyton's.

So, I will try to remember everything that we learned in Xander's swim lessons as a 22 month old and implement them with Trey. Thankfully, I have several friends who are baby/toddler swim instructors, so I can hopefully ask some questions to fill in what I've forgotten...

  1. This child is unbelievable. I have never seen a child happily walk into the water until it goes over his mouth... and even then not be disturbed, but want to do it again, and again, and again.
