Nature's Gift...

When nature hands us the gift of opportunity, we take advantage and go exploring.  Yesterday, we pulled out the balls and had an impromptu lesson on lunar eclipses.

Natural learning opportunities abound everywhere.  With the help of the internet and a few balls, we were able to prepare for our 'quasi' early rise the next morning.

With hubby tucked warmly in bed and keeping Greta company, the boys and I ventured outdoors early this morning to take in what we could of the eclipse.

  1. Fabulous! that was one of the early units we did in homeschooling. Maybe the boys will want to watch a short video of their mom and aunties doing the same activity. You girls were about the same ages as the boys are now and I we assigned "parts" with the same birth order. I remember Evie was the sun. She just had to stand still and shine!

  2. Trey was not a very static sun. He was bouncing all over the place! :) Otherwise than that, it did seem sort of similar!

  3. Actually I think all the boys were moving faster than you girls did. Girls want it to work - the moon to rotate around the earth while the earth rotates around the sun. Your boys looked like they made it a little more competitive - the moon needed to chase the earth! :-) Ah boys. I love them...

  4. Love this! Heather, you are such a fantastic teacher. Even in the midst of baby-time, you keep those little minds learning!

  5. laughing... Boys sure are different than girls. Yes, they had turned it into a race around a very active sun. It is going to be a riot to see how Greta fits into this very energetic environment.

Heather, I'm so thankful for natural learning opportunities like this. Between normal baby stuff and then all of the food sensitivities that have required drastic menu changes, I haven't managed to pull myself together and get anything formal really going yet. I'm so thankful that they are learning all the time no matter what!
